Traveston local Steve Hutchinson is one of Australia’s best kept secrets. Since the early ‘70’s, Steve has played in bands as a “singing bass/guitar player”, a musician’s musician.
These days finds him mostly playing solo gigs featuring a repertoire as diverse as his experiences. From soulful covers of the likes of Don Henley and Lionel Richie to straight out joyous rock and roll, Steve has every genre covered. However the highlight of any “Hutch” performance is witnessing his insightful and intelligent original songs. A superb song writer, he draws on real events in his life and the world around him, weaving words with music, beautiful sung in a deceptively wide ranging vocal style.
His intimate knowledge of our local area has produced magnificent songs such as “Traveston Sunrise”, “Northern Sky”, “As The Mary Rises”, the delightful tale of “The Goomeri Pumpkin Rolling Song” and “The Mary Rattler”. If you have a favourite topic, chances are Steve has the song to fit.
