Enjoy Irish music at the Apollonian Hotel with The Famous Jimmies. Real traditional Irish tunes on uilleann pipes and mandolin and songs in Irish (Gaeilge) with influences from Planxty and the Bothy Band through to Lúnasa and Kila. The core members of The Famous Jimmies are: Dave Burrows (guitar, bouzouki), Simon Moore (mandolin, vocals), Brendan Weightman (uilleann pipes, wooden flute, tin whistles, vocals) and Roger Peters (percussion).

Come join John Withers all strung out jazz 5 for spit roast and some jazz.

After playing jazz professionally for nearly 40 years, banjo player John Withers with his wife Brenda decided to settle in semi-retirement on the Sunshine Coast. One of the great advantages of settling in Noosa is the veritable smorgasbord of fine musicians living locally, resulting in great bands like “The all strung out jazz5″.

This unique blend of mostly string instrumentalists playing jazz has all the excitement of the early New Orleans string bands, (i.e. “Six and seven eighths string band”) plus more than a touch of the Australian bush.

A full-time career entertainer, Col draws on a wealth of experience from his work and travels in Australia and overseas, including nine years in North America and six years in South East Asia. He is currently based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast but always keeps an eye on distant horizons.

He has appeared consistently in the best resort hotels, restaurants, cafes, taverns, and clubs from the Great Barrier Reef to the shores of the magnificent Sydney Harbour, his birthplace. A true troubadour, he was Noosa and Bali’s first full time musician-surfer, working long residencies in both idyllic locations. With a deep love for his craft and no intention of stopping doing what he loves best, he continues to draw praise from management and audiences of all varieties for his professional manner, individual style and distinctive voice.

An accomplished and dedicated guitarist, he plays acoustic, six and 12-string, classical and Fender Strat/Tele guitars. In the recording studio he plays bass and keyboards. His ever expanding repertoire covers just about every genre and as a bonus for Jimmy Buffett fans, Col can chose from a list of over 110 songs, Margaritaville included of course.

Although primarily a soloist, Col has had long working relationships with some of Australia’s finest pros, notably Ewan MacKenzie, Bill Payne, Ross Williams, Doc Span, Gavan Anderson, Peter Wells and Steve Hutchinson. He has shared the stage with his mentors and contemporaries such as Doug Ashdown, Marion Henderson, Mike McClellan and Greg Quill. Never the shy one, he enjoyed great success on all of Australia’s “New Faces” shows, once being runner up to Paul Hogan on Chanel Nine’s National New Faces Grand Final. Other television appearances included “Reg Lindsay’s Country Homestead” singing one original tune and three Jimmy Buffett tunes, much to the delight of drummer Tommy and guitarist, Phil Emanuel.

Col has been performing at the Apollonian since 1992 and looks forward to every Sunday with real enthusiasm at being able to contribute to a memorable Aussie experience for everyone.

This Brisbane based band performs in various authentic 1920s golden age and contempory musical styles.

Their musical influences come from traditional artists such as Yank Rachell, The Mississippi Sheiks, Tommy Johnson and The Memphis Jug Band. We are also inspired by modern musicians such as; Steve Earle, Steve James, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, The Ten Cent Shooters and C.W. Stoneking.

Band Members

Mark Anderson aka Ruffcut Anderson: Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. is a founding member of Brisbane bands Dirt Music and The Jook Joint Boys. Ruffcut formed Acoustic Union as a vehicle for the live performance of Americana acoustic music with like-minded supporting artists. Since its formation in 2009, Acoustic Union has performed in and around the Darling Downs and Toowoomba region at the Nobby Music Festival, The Stanthorpe Winery, The Boogie Shack and Strummers Folk Music Club and performances at various Brisbane venues such as; The Brisbane Convention Centre and The Black Bear lodge (formerly The Troubadour).

Mal Nebe: On double bass has been the engine room for many Brisbane bands and performers over the years crossing genres such as Bluegrass, Blues, Rockabilly and Gypsy Jazz. Mal was most notably the double bass player for The Backwoodstompers, The Muleskinners and Gypsy Jazz ensemble Bellville.
